Of everything we learn, communication just might be the most important. We finished up 2023 training with teams from on how @NASAArtemis crews will safely leave the Orion spacecraft in case of an emergency, which can mean understanding each other even through a sealed helmet

We're going around the Moon. Come watch with us. Artemis II's four-astronaut crew is lifting off from @NASAKennedy on an approximately 10-day mission that will bring us closer to living on the Moon and Mars. The launch window opens at 6:24pm ET (2224 UTC).

The "8 Balls" astronaut class turns 10 today! 🎱 NASA's 21st astronaut class of 8 exceptional men and women, chosen from >6,000 candidates, was announced #OTD in 2013. 2 of them, @Astro_Christina and @AstroVicGlover, have since been selected to fly to the Moon on #Artemis II.
The eight-member 2013 class of NASA astronauts take a break from training to pose for their group portrait at NASA's Johnson Space Center. Pictured from the left (front row) are Anne C. McClain, Tyler N. (Nick) Hague and Nicole Aunapu Mann. Pictured from the left (back row) are Jessica U. Meir, Josh A. Cassada, Victor J. Glover, Andrew R. (Drew) Morgan and Christina M. Hammock.

To the Moon, by way of Goddard! Today, the @NASAArtemis II astronauts visited Goddard, met employees and answered questions about their experience. @Astro_Christina spoke about her time as an engineer at Goddard and preparing to go to the Moon.
The four astronauts in NASA's Artemis II crew, sitting in chairs on a stage. All four wear deep blue flight suits with brightly colored patches on the chest and arms indicating their names, missions, and NASA or Canadian Space Agency affiliation. NASA astronaut Victor Glover, a man with very short dark hair, gestures with one hand as he speaks to an audience member off screen. To his right and closer to the camera, CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen and NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, both men with short brown hair, look toward him. To his left, NASA astronaut Christina Koch, a woman with short, curly dark hair, also looks on. Behind them are dark blue and red curtains, and part of a projector screen is visible on the right.
View from the side of a Goddard auditorium, over the heads of employees who are looking at a stage. On the left side of the stage, the Artemis II crew astronauts are seated in blue flight suits. On the right side of the stage, Christa Peters-Lidard is standing behind a wooden podium. In the center, a large screen shows a picture of the Orion capsule.
Astronaut Christina Koch stands behind a wooden podium, speaking. She is wearing a blue flight suit with an American flag patch on her left sleeve and a patch with her name on it on the left side of her chest. The podium features NASA’s seal and a microphone.
View over the heads of hundreds of Goddard employees, facing a stage. On the left, three of the Artemis II crew are seated next to American flags. They are wearing blue astronaut flight suits. On the right, Christina Koch stands behind a wooden podium. She is wearing a blue flight suit and gesturing to a large screen in the center of the stage. The screen shows an old picture of Christina sitting in front of an older model computer monitor at Goddard.

The crew met some of the youngest members of the Artemis Generation, pre-kindergartners from the NASA Goddard Child Development Center, as part of their visit.
A group of pre-kindergarteners from the Goddard Child Development Center sit on a flight of stairs, with several children on each stair. They are mostly smiling or looking at the camera. In front and on each side of them, the four members of the Artemis II crew are sitting in blue flight suits, smiling at the camera. On the left side of the picture, part of a giant globe is visible. Staff members from the center are standing and sitting off to the right side.

Every time I do STEM outreach, I leave feeling sure that I got more out of it than the students.  No exception last week when we got to share some space design demos with students after the @NASAArtemis II crew announcement.  Thank you!!
