Introducing Local Backups on Autonomous
We’re excited to introduce Local Backups on Autonomous, making it easier than ever to manage your website backups.Previously, restoring specific files or database tables from older backups was a complex and time-consuming process. Users had to restore the entire website to a previous version, extract the necessary files, and then revert the site back. Manually downloading backups was also cumbersome, and exporting backups to external sources wasn’t possible.
With Local Backups, you can now download backups directly to your file system. This feature allows you to easily retrieve individual files or tables and export data to any external source.

Announcement: User/Password Deployment Across Servers
We’ve made an important update to enhance security on Cloudways. Redis usernames and passwords have now been set for each application across all Cloudways servers. This update will be applied during regular maintenance windows and will not impact your applications.What You Need to Know:
- There will be no disruption to your services during this update.
- The current default access (without username/password) will remain active.
- Redis authentication with usernames and passwords will be enforced in a future update, and we will notify you when that happens.
DO Basic 32GB Premium Server Now Available in NYC1
We’re excited to announce that, in response to high customer demand, we will be enabling the DO Basic 32GB Premium Server Size in the NYC1 region starting Monday, August 11, 2025.From this date onward, customers with NYC1-based servers will be able to scale their servers to the new 32GB Premium size. This addition provides more flexibility and performance options for your applications.
Historically, servers in the NYC1 region were limited in terms of size options due to provider-side capacity issues. As a result, we transitioned to the NYC3 region as our standard two years ago, and new server sizes were introduced there. With this update, we’re bringing the 32GB Premium server size to NYC1 to meet customer needs.

Breeze 2.2.16 Now Available on WordPress.org
The API response timeout has been increased from 4 seconds to 30 seconds. Breeze is now better equipped to handle slower external APIs, which helps prevent request failures.Log Structure Updated for New Stack Applications
We’ve restructured application logs as part of our upcoming public preview for the new Cloudways stack. This update improves clarity and consistency across log files.
New applications will be provisioned on a new log structure by default. A network-wide update will also be rolled out soon to bring existing applications in line.
What’s changed:
- Static content logs nginx_{apptype}-{serverid}-{app-id}.access|error.log → renamed to static_{apptype}-{serverid}-{app-id}.access|error.log
- Backend (previously Apache) logs apache_{apptype}-{serverid}-{app-id}.access|error.log → renamed to backend_{apptype}-{serverid}-{app-id}.access|error.log
- User interface labels updated In the Application → Monitoring → Logs screen, nginx is now labeled as static, apache is now labeled as backend

Improved Filtering, Pagination, and Sorting for Server and App Listings
Managing servers and applications is now faster and more flexible. Based on customer feedback, we’ve added custom pagination, advanced filters, and updated sorting options on the listing pages. Key updates include:- Pagination: View 10, 20, or 30 items per page
- Server Filters: Filter by provider and server status (Running or Stopped)
- Application Filters: Filter by server (up to five), app type (e.g., WordPress, Magento), and environment (Production or Staging)
- Sorting Enhancements:
- Server listing: sort by Date Created, Name, or App Count
- Application listing: sort by Date Created, Name, or Project
- Older sorting options like Status and Provider are now available under filters for a cleaner experience
Vultr & Linode General Purpose and CPU-Optimized Now Available on Cloudways Platform
We’ve added Vultr and Linode General Purpose and CPU-Optimized servers to the Cloudways platform, along with an upgrade to Vertical Scaling for Linode servers. What’s new:- General Purpose servers offer dedicated CPUs and balanced memory (4GB per vCPU), ideal for high-traffic sites and resource-intensive apps.
- CPU-Optimized servers deliver more raw processing power with a 2:1 CPU-to-RAM ratio, perfect for compute-heavy workloads.
- Traditional vertical scaling (CPU/RAM/Storage) is still available.
- Downscaling to other sizes will still require server cloning.

Password Protection Now Available for All Applications
The Password Protection feature is now available across all applications. Previously limited to staging environments, it can now be enabled directly from the UI without manual .htaccess configuration. The feature is part of the public preview of the Lightning stack and helps users control access more easily.Lightning (Nginx Stack) Now Available in Public Preview
The Lightning Stack, our new Nginx-based server stack, is now available in public preview on the Cloudways Platform starting July 8, 2025. Lightning offers major performance and resource efficiency improvements. Key benefits include:- Faster performance: Nginx handles both static and dynamic content with PHP-FPM, serving up to 54% more requests and 19% faster response times based on benchmark data
- Better resource usage: Nginx’s event-driven model is more efficient with memory and CPU
- Varnish integration: Built-in caching support improves delivery of dynamic content
- Simplified architecture: One server layer replaces the reverse proxy model for easier maintenance
- Optimized for modern apps: Ideal for applications that do not require .htaccess support
- .htaccess is not supported in the Lightning stack. Some WordPress Multisite features or plugins may not work as expected
- One of the two firewalls included in the hybrid stack is not yet integrated. Full security coverage is expected within the next 2 to 3 weeks

AWS Server Storage Enhancement: Upgraded GP2 to GP3 Disks
We have upgraded the fleet of our AWS servers from GP2 to GP3 storage disks. This upgrade applies to all three disks of AWS servers i.e. root, database, and web disks. Why this upgrade matters:- GP2 performance depends on disk size: 3 IOPS per GB, up to 16,000 IOPS, with max throughput of 250 MB/s
- GP3 offers consistent performance, regardless of size: baseline 3,000 IOPS and 125 MB/s, scalable up to 16,000 IOPS and 1,000 MB/s
- GP3 delivers better performance, stability, and efficiency, especially during high traffic or concurrent usage.

Malware Protection Overview Now Available per Server
A new Malware Overview screen is now available, allowing customers to view the malware protection status of all applications on a server in one place. From this view, users can choose to activate the malware protection add-on in bulk for all applications on the server or select specific applications as needed. New Malware Protection Update: View Cleaned Code Injections
Customers using the Malware Protection add-on are now able to view code that was removed during cleanup from both files and databases. A new eye icon will appear in the Malicious tab. This allows customers to review the cleaned code directly within the platform. Version 2.2.10 introduces multiple enhancements to Breeze’s lazy loading functionality:- Added native lazy loading support for iframe elements
- Added lazy load support for video elements with multiple source tags
- Added support for .webp image format in lazy loading
- Switched from Lazysizes to Vanilla LazyLoad, reducing script size and improving efficiency
- Improved lazy load placeholders by using Base64-encoded inline images for faster rendering
Firewall Settings Now Accessible Through the User Interface
Users can now manage key firewall settings directly from the Cloudways UI. These new controls give customers more flexibility and visibility over security configurations. Available in Servers → Security → Firewall → Settings icon:- Enhanced DoS Request Limit Select from 50, 100, 150, 200, or 250 requests per 30 seconds. Default is 250.
- Weak Password Protection Enable or disable protection for weak passwords. Default is enabled.
- Request Body Size Limit Choose between 128MB, 256MB, or 512MB. Default is 128MB. This should only be increased if the application is showing request body size-related errors.
New Features for Client Billing and Reporting Now Live
Two updates have been released to improve billing flexibility and streamline subscription management on the platform.- Redesigned Stripe Connection Flow
- Users with restricted Stripe accounts
- Returning subscribers reconnecting existing profiles
- First-time users onboarding to client billing
- Auto-Charge for Recurring Invoices
- Recurring and one-time invoices are automatically charged to the client’s saved card
- A status indicator shows whether auto-charge is active for each client
- Users can toggle the feature on or off from the client’s profile at any time

Debian 12 Now Available on All New Servers
Starting April 9, 2025, all newly launched servers on the Cloudways Platform will run on Debian 12. This update brings improvements to system stability, security, and compatibility with the latest stacks and packages. From a customer perspective, the only visible change is the underlying OS and updated package versions. No functional impact is expected. Any issues related to Debian 12 can be escalated through the standard support process. The user interface and related Knowledge Base articles will be updated to reflect this change.New Nginx-Based Stack Now Live in Private Preview
The new Nginx-based stack is now live on the Cloudways Platform in private preview. Access is currently limited and controlled through internal flags, with broader onboarding scheduled to begin next week.Breeze 2.2.8 Now Available on WordPress.org
Version 2.2.8 includes two fixes related to cache management via scheduled tasks:- The breeze_purge_cache cron event is now created automatically when the Breeze plugin is activated
- The cron event is now removed properly on both single-site and multisite setups when the plugin is deactivated
UI and UX Improvements for Server, Application, and Backup Management
We’ve made several updates to improve navigation and performance across the Cloudways platform. These changes are focused on helping users manage resources more efficiently in the Unified Interface.
Server and Application Management Dropdown:
- The header dropdown now uses a new API for faster, more efficient data retrieval
- Displays the 5 most recently created servers or applications by default
- Includes a "View All" link for easy access in larger environments
- Sorting now defaults to newest resources first, replacing the previous oldest-first behavior
- A new side drawer with search shows more details for environments with large lists of servers or apps
Application Backup & Restore Page:
- The "Take Backup Now" option is immediately visible, even while restore points are still loading
- Previously, customers had to wait for all data to load before taking action
- The "Make Primary" domain operation no longer causes a temporary server block
- Users can now track the progress directly from the Domain Management tab
- Backend validation steps have been optimized for slightly faster execution
These updates are designed to improve speed, usability, and control for users working across multiple servers or applications.
Malware Insights Now Available for Database Injections
Cloudways users can now access detailed insights for malware detected in application databases. Earlier, only general notifications were shown, without identifying where the injection occurred. A new column has been added in the Malicious tab to display the exact table name, column, and row ID of the affected database entry. The update improves visibility and helps users take quicker, more informed action.UUX Improvements: Dashboard Performance and Server/Application Listing Enhancements
We’re excited to announce significant UI/UX improvements focusing on the unified dashboard and server/application listing. These enhancements are part of our ongoing commitment to platform optimization and will be deployed on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025.
Key Improvements:
- Optimized Dashboard Performance: A new API endpoint now retrieves only the essential data for the dashboard, reducing load times and improving responsiveness.
- On-Demand Server/Application Pagination: Data is now loaded as needed, enhancing initial load times and overall performance.

- The existing support scope selection used a modal dialog, which didn’t align with best practices for user interaction.
- The modal lacked essential information, making it harder for customers to make informed decisions.
- Dedicated Full-Page Flow: The modal has been replaced with a full-page flow, giving users more space to understand the available support scopes.
- Support Center in Left Navigation: A Support Center has been added to the left navigation pane, allowing quick access to various support resources.

Important – Malware Bot Alerts
We want to inform everyone that starting September 9th, we will be activating the Cloudways Bot Alert for Malware. This alert will notify customers if their website has been hacked or infected with malware.In contrast to the previous Vulnerability Scanner Alerts, which caused many issues for our support team, we’ve taken a more customer-centric approach this time.
Customers will first receive an email informing them of the activation. Alerts will only be sent if their applications are compromised. If customers wish to opt-out before the alerts are enabled, they can do so through the Bot notification settings. However, we strongly recommend keeping the alerts active, as they will only be triggered when it is 100% certain that the site is infected.

We are beginning a major upgrade across our platform, moving servers from PHP 5.6, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 → PHP 7.4. This ensures a more secure, reliable, and high-performing hosting experience.Key Details:
- Upgrade Timeline: PHP upgrades start on September 2, 2024 and will run in weekly batches.

Sunset of Cloudflare’s Auto-Minify
Cloudflare announced the deprecation and sunset of Auto-Minify in August. We are pleased to inform everyone that Cloudflare's Auto-Minify has now successfully sunset across Cloudways.- Auto-Minify is now disabled by default for all websites.
- The option has been removed from the UI.
SafeUpdates Improvement
We’ve introduced a new check within SafeUpdates to address an issue where updates were getting aborted with a 50X error. Our analysis found that if a customer enabled SafeUpdates but later disabled application access from the application settings, the update would fail.To prevent this, we’ve added a health check before executing SafeUpdates. If the application is disabled, the client will see the following message:

We’re excited to introduce Application Recovery on Cloudways Autonomous. Here’s how it works:- Backup Retention: Application backups are stored for 14 days only.
- Recovery Eligibility: Only the last available backup is eligible for recovery.
- Staging Applications: Staging applications cannot be recovered.
- Version Snapshots: Each deleted version of an application will retain its own snapshot in the recovery list, giving users the flexibility to choose any recovery point.
