In 1996, Congress passed a law creating a special fast-track deportation process (“expedited removal”) for illegals who have been inside the US for 2 years or less. After adoption, it was never applied outside very limited circumstances. In 2004, the Bush Administration published

A great result. But it's also not even a remotely close legal question. Trump Admin should be as close to 100% likely to succeed as one could ever be, if the plaintiffs seek further review.

This is an important win for the American people, with implications beyond just this case. Important caveat—the encounter occurred 14 years ago. And DHS initiated removal proceedings 13 years ago. That's how long this took.
