Remotes are the main collectibles of the Gex series. Gex needs remotes to get access to more levels. The remotes change in appearance throughout the series.
Gex[]
In Gex, each remote has a design that relates to the world it belongs to. There are two kinds of remotes: world remotes (which flash multiple colors) are used to go to another map while level remotes activate TVs on a map. Completing a bonus round in each world gradually rewards the player pieces of the remote to Planet X.
Gex: Enter The Gecko[]
In Gex: Enter The Gecko, there are three types of remote: red, silver, and gold. Red Remotes are used to activate boss levels, open gates, and eventually activate Channel Z to fight Rez.
Red Remotes are gained by completing missions. Silver Remotes are used to go to bonus levels. Each level has two Silver Remotes. One is hidden for the player to find and the other "Reward" remote is obtained by collecting enough collectables. Gold Remotes are used to go to secret levels. There are only two ways to get Gold Remotes. One way is by defeating a boss. The other way is by beating a bonus level. Collecting all remotes in the game unlocks a special ending showcasing game concepts (enemy ideas, level concepts, level logos and magazine art).
Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko[]
In Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, there is only one type of Remote, which are simply used to open up new levels and can be collected by completing missions. Each area (except for Mission Control) has an additional Remote obtainable by collecting all 100 Fly Coins in them. There is also a Remote available for completing the training room and one on the steps to the higher level of Mission Control. Defeating Rez also rewards the player with a Remote. Collecting all 50 remotes rewards the player with a special ending showcasing the development team (this ending was left out of the UK release in favor of a language selection screen between English, Spanish and Italian).
