mutiny, i promise

So! I very abruptly acquired a new cat.

What I thought was a six-month-old calico kitten turned up on my porch 10 or 14 days ago, in what I thought was her first heat. Poor thing. And then the annoying boy cats went away but she stayed, and I said, well, I have to catch her and get her spayed because I am not having kittens here, so I'm going to see if I can touch her.

It turns out not only could I touch her, but she also wanted in. She ran in on her own, and that started a whole thing where she'd sit and scream at the window or door to be let in.

So on Tuesday, she went to the vet and got spayed and now we're converting her to a house cat (she's currently sleeping in my bed while I'm downstairs on the couch, so this is obviously going to be a long and difficult process). Yeah, cat. Because she's not a kitten! She's a tiny adult cat who is probably two or three! I think my eyes nearly popped out of my skull when the vet said that. But now I'm even happier I snatched her up.

I wanted to give her a cute girly name, like a flower name, but I couldn't come up with a good one, so her name is Callie. Which is unfortunate, because that makes her Callie the calico, when I really picked it because my favorite houseplants are calatheas, but I don't want to ask people to pronounce it (Moira gives people enough trouble).

The other cats are... adjusting. They're not delighted, but it's just some hissing that will stop in a couple of weeks, if it even takes that long. It's already significantly less than it was yesterday.

I do need more cat dishes, though. That's the big problem here.
