For Grades 7-11: Students want to know, “When am I ever going to use this?”. Bootstrap offers many answers! Functions make game characters move. Ratios and coordinates are used in designing flags from around the world. Inequalities keep game characters on the screen. By highlighting the underlying CS, DS, and AI concepts that arise in core classes, our materials connect learning across the school day and help students master the skills they need to succeed in cutting-edge degree programs and jobs.

All of a sudden, kids are getting motivated and excited about math again.

What I love about Bootstrap is it gives students an opportunity to see how math is used in the real world. Because by the time they get to 6th grade, many of them have had lots of bad experiences in math. They've had teachers who are like, I can't believe you don't know that. It's like, why would a teacher even say that? But I've heard it, so I know the kids aren't lying to me when they say those kinds of things. And it's like, you are going to use math. And, you know, sometimes our parents have a very negative math mindset because of their own experiences. And so all of a sudden, kids are getting motivated and excited about math again. And that's always been my passion, is how can I get kids fired up about math? Because we use it every single day.

Bootstrap can make all students successful

I just had a formal observation with my Superintendent and I chose for her to watch the class when the red star code is introduced. The class is primarily boys and 9 of the 14 students have 504's or IEP's; namely for anxiety or social/emotional issues. They were all engaged in the lesson and needless to say my review scores were stellar. I really wanted her to see that Bootstrap can make all students successful and that it did.

The project was phenomenal

When we did the logo project at the training, it didn't move my needle very far. But I am teaching Data Science and I did the logo project with my class and it was phenomenal. I printed all their logos with the code and did a bulletin board outside my classroom. When they saw that I was putting their work outside my classroom, some of them got fired up and were like, 'If I'd known that you were putting these outside the classroom in color I would have done something different!' and got back on their computers and started re-coding.
