Got a 5k next Saturday and I hope it’s not going be as hot as it is now…………

203 lbs this morning and I think I will get under 200 before this run.

Phew, I’m tired……………

Long, hot weekend and I busted my but all weekend.

I had to do some repairs on the backyard fence.

I had extra 4×4’s from taking down parts of the last a couple of years ago so that wasn’t an expense.  Did have to buy the new lumber and 3 80 lb bags of concrete.  The cross pieces are just there to hold the new posts while the concrete cures.  I will take them off and put the panel back in place.

I only dug down about 2 feet, I just want this repair to last  4-5 years until I move…….

That was Saturday.

Sunday I had all sorts of yardwork to do and was outside about 6 hours

Sunday morning I made my coffee and went to the grocery store about 8am.

I needed to get food for my lunches this week.  They had some pork B1G1 at $4.49 lb.  They also had ground beef on “sale” for $5.49.  I bought a couple of 3 lb packages.  $5’49 is not a great price, but today, it’s the going rate.

I took Monday off, my wife had an eye appointment that she didn’t feel like she should drive herself, so I did.

1 week post surgery, no pathology results yet.  She has to wear a bra 24 hours a day to keep the glue stiches from tearing and that is a royal pain for her.  But generally, doing very well.  She sees the surgeon on Tuesday for a follow up.

Weather………..

I’ve been “complaining” that it was July and it hadn’t felt like summer yet, been pretty wet and not hot.  Well, we had a heat bubble sit over use for almost a week. HOT and DRY. Had to run the air conditioner a few days.

Well, we got the rain:

Thursday night into Friday morning, 9pm-2am, we got almost 4 inches.  I was asleep through most of it and did not realize that it rained that much.

This is my neighbor’s backyard.  The extent of the water is exactly where it starts to get into my basement…….

I did get water in the basement and it was just enough to get the carpet wet in my office space.  So, I had to pull that out.  Haven’t had to do that in a while.

Saturday afternoon, we had another rain blast that was about an inch in an hour.  I had to go out to the street and clean the drains on both sides of the street as the street was underwater.

Good news, it’s Sunday evening and it’s considerably cooler.

I bought some Yuengling beer.  This supposed to be a right wing beer so I thought I would try it.  It’s OK for a lager, I still prefer a stout.

Pork loin was B1G2 at $4.49lb, that’s $12 of meat I grilled for my lunches this week.

Gunga Galunga, so I got that going for me……………….

I took Friday off, spent 6 hours at the hospital with the wife while she had her breast cancer surgery.  So far everything has been going very well.  We won’t have the pathology results for a few more days.  Fortunately, her cancer is “Ductal carcinoma in situ”.  It’s mostly none spreading and is probably the least amount of cancer one can have and be cancer, but it still is cancer……………………

I have a tremendous amount of faith in modern surgery (ZERO for pharmacology) and am very grateful for it……

Coming up,10 weeks of radiation, no chemo

I grabbed this fire pit from my mother’s house the last time we were up there.  It was in back and it was half filled with half burnt debris and water soaked ashes.  It has some rust on the inside and the outside.

I did a little bit of scraping and some rubbing with some steel wool, cleaned it up a bit and hit it with some Rust-Oleum.  I had just enough to do the outside and I might touch up the inside after getting some more paint.

There’s a screen for it as well.  I had a can of yellow paint that I use to spray metal targets with.  When I get more black paint, I’ll do this as well.  In the future, I will cover this fire pit so I can get 3-4 years out of it.

This fire pit isn’t made for cooking on, so I had to improvise some grates.

Ribs were “Buy 1 Get 2” which is usually a suckers buy, but if yo get 3 packs all the same size, it works out to be about $3.99 lb which is a fair sale price.  Also had a pork steak I tossed on.

I have a whole bunch of aluminum trays and I made my fire in that.  I think that’s how I will use this to keep it from rusting/burning out.

I cut all the meat off the ribs and that will be four lunches this week and the bones will probably be 2-3 dinners.

Saturday I did a little tree trimming.

I have never fallen off of a roof or a ladder…………..

In no particular order:

The house across the street from me has the “exact” same tree that I have.  The difference is that in 30 years, it has never been trimmed.  The 90 year old lady recently got moved in to the same place my mother is and the house is for sale.  The old lady has had a yard service for 25 years and all they ever really did was mow.  I am very tempted to meet the realtor over there and offer todo the tree for $500.

Fifth 5K of the year.

Cool, 65 degrees………..

Ended up getting rather humid as we ran.

I ended up with a 10:25 pace and was  disappointed again.

My goal for this year was to run 9:40 but just haven’t turned that out yet…..

Damn mile 2 is killing me……………

3 weeks until the next run.

Made another trip to Mom’s house in Janesville.  getting really close to being done with that.  Getting that sold will be a huge burden taken off my brother.

On Saturday, the wife texted the in-laws about meeting us for lunch.  Took them 6 hours to reply…………….  Wife’s mother goes ape poopy when the wife doesn’t  respond to a text within 30 seconds…………..

So, wife tells her what restaurant we are going to and much to my surprise, the MIL had the ability to look up the menu online (this will be a call back).  Of course she complains that it seems a bit expensive (as they go to Europe this summer for 15k)….

So, we get to the restaurant 10 minutes before they do, and I already know what I want to eat since I’ve been there 3-4 times before.  MIL sits down and instead of looking at the menu, starts a conversation with the FIL.  On any given day, about 90% of conversations with the in-laws is them talking about what happened 30 minutes ago.  Server approaches and MIL says we need a few minutes and continues the conversation with FIL  Server approaches again, MIL picks up menu and says she needs a few minutes.  She looks at the menu like she didn’t see it yesterday on her phone………………………

No, I’m not in a hurry, but this stuff just drives me crazy.

I had the Fish and Chips.  Awesome.  I’ve had this before.  Also had a Lexington Bourbon Ale (8.8%) that was pretty good.

I only ate one piece of fish but ate all of the fries.  I have not eaten that much starchy carbs in a long time.

Will use the other two piece of the fish for fish tacos this week for dinner.

Short week this week, I worked Juneteenth and will take that day off this Friday.  The wife has her breast cancer surgery this Friday.
