Thursday July 16

We are still under a flood watch until noon tomorrow. The rain has stopped for now.

I got up to take meds at 8:30, and get dressed to prep for my dentist visit. They texted me that they would “reach out” when they heard from the doctors whether or not they would show.

I called the office several times, and got voicemail, and finally left a message saying I would assume they are closed, since no one answered the phones.

At 10:05, I got a text saying that they would be closed today. I was already back in bed.

I also got a call from my pal that runs the local auto repair shop, asking for a call back. No doubt he wants to prod me to prod the kid into coming and getting her car off his property. Now that they are temporarily/permanently residing on my 10 acres, we should  maybe make arrangements to get a caliche driveway of sort laid out for them, where they can get in and out without driving through the mud. Perhaps a pad of some sort to put her car on…you recall, the one that needs an engine, and she is still owes $7000.

I think the banks have just about squeezed every penny of her that they can. Insurance will pay for the tow, but I don’t want that area to start looking like a colonia full of junked out cars on blocks.

So I contacted a guy to see if he could do that.

The things we do for our kids….

Wednesday July 15

And the rains came, and kept on coming. We’ve been under flash flood warning/watches for two days now, and wouldn’t ya know it, I had to drive through the torrential rain to the dentist; only to find that neither of the doctors could make it to work because of “low water crossings flooded”.

The receptionist was at work as well as the hygienist…but the doctors? Noooo…They actually texted me a reminder that if I cancelled, they would charge me $26 fee…I think I’ll tape the $26 to the bottom of a rubber ducky….that would be after I get my crown installed…I don’t wanna piss anyone off who puts sharp tools into my mouth.

I had never driven through a rain storm like that before.. The little Escape did well, splashing through some of the water hazards. On a highway I usually drive 70 MPH, I drove 30 MPH today, and that was still too fast..

I rescheduled for tomorrow. Hopefully, the sun will come out over the doctor’s little worlds.

My cousin called me last night from North Dakota, asking about how we were faring against the weather. He keeps tabs on the goings on, being a life long farmer, he understands when weather can get foul.

I made a double pizza last night, using my sheet pan. That way, I used all the dough, and shared with the kid. Of course, I only ate toppings, and my BS today was 105.

I still cannot get lower than the 270 lb mark.

I did receive my heart monitor. I installed it yesterday. The last one I had was installed by the cardiologist nurse. This thingy records data, and then it is sent back to the company where they download the data, and hold it hostage until they get paid.

I had to shave a portion of my chest, and even nicked myself. Chest shaving is not something I am used to doing. I then had to ‘exfoliate’ the area, and alcohol wipe before applying the super glue monitor. I know this: it will hurt like hell when it is removed in two weeks.

Monday July 13

Up and at ’em today to town for the oil change. I left early to get some other stuff done, and wouldn’t you know it, my first stop was the pharmacy drive thru…the line was backed up all the way around the rear of the store. I calmly drove off their property, thru the neighbor’s driveway, and went to fill up the tank…gas is still at $4.19 for mid grade. I went to the shop and waited and hour for the oil change, and had them replace the wiper blades.

Then to the hardware store, where I picked up some more septic treatment Roebic, a new utility knife, as son in law never returned mine. I also snagged a pound of shelled pecan halves..

With my chores away from home done, I returned to do more chores; mainly, finish breaking down the boxes, and putting them in the trash barrel with the rest of the garbage, and hauling it out to the street…now I am exhausted.

My BS today is 113. My BP monitor still shows an irregular heartbeat, so maybe losing the weight will not help with my AFIB.

I planned to make some more bone broth, but wonder if I am up to it..maybe after nap?

Then again, maybe not.

The roasted chicken last night was very good. I now have three carcasses for bone broth…and enough chicken left over for a meal tonight.

A day off tomorrow, then Wednesday, I return to the dentist to complete the crown.

Then, when all this is completed, I’ll have to set an appt with the colonoscopy place, and get started on that.

Man, when you hit 65, your life turns into a string of doctor appointments and tests.

I got my SS  deposit today…about a week early because of the way the days of the week fall…next month will be early too…when it catches up, it’ll be a lean week around here…

Saturday July 11

I did make my carne guisada last night, and it was so good, I had a midnight snack of it, along with some chorizo and eggs…My BS today is 137…oops..shoulda had the bone broth instead.

Thunderstorms on and off  today, with a couple already passed.

The wife ordered some stuff from Wally World, and they delivered by 8:30 am this morning. Too bad Sam’s cannot follow that lead. The wife figgers she is going to be driving that baby around soon, and ordered a regulation car seat as well as some other stuff. Oh, good thing; she also bought a “protection plan” for the car seat for $13 from Asurion…now, we are set to go!

Looks like baked chicken breast for me tonight. The wife said the milk for her cereal was ‘compromised’, so I had to dump that jug…now, the fresh one we just bought, so I imagine that will be gone in a few days. The wife does like her cereal.

The baby is showing signs of constipation, according to mom. I am going to put a dose of gripe water in his formula for the next couple bottles to see if that helps.

I tried to be nice to Lil’ SIL last night when she called the wife, by answering the wife’s phone…Lil’ SIL accused me of being drunk, and interrupting their conversation. Lil’ SIL was going to return a rocking chair that the wife gave her a while back, and the wife bought the kid a different rocker/recliner..Lil’ SIL insists that we need a rocking chair. She has gotten really bossy since the wife had her fall last summer.

It was about this time last summer that we hauled her to San Antonio hospital trauma center and rehab. I think we’re fortunate that she has been able to recover as much as she has.

Friday July 10

Up early again to take the wife to get her blood work done for 2 different doctors. At least we got it done in the big city instead of having to drive to Boerne..which is about a 60 mile round trip…that’s where Lab Corp is located, and some docs insist on Lab Corp, even though they are a little inconvenient for we patients.

After returning home, I put up much of yesterday’s meat purchases: chicken breasts, tenderloins, sirloin, and I held out the two cubed steaks for dinner; one of which the wife said she wanted. Probably better if I don’t eat both of them anyway..I plan to make some gravy for that. I did hold out one chicken breast for tomorrow night and maybe some stir fry..

Am also making carne guisada this afternoon..no tacos, but I like it right out of the pan.

So we are done with appts until next Wednesday, when I return to the dentist. Oh, I did make an appt at the local auto repair to get the oil changed in the wife’s car. It’s overdue, and we need to keep that car rolling…that will be Monday morning. I also need to swing by the local hardware store for some stuff.

My new son in law has a job offer in Fredericksburg, at a frame shop as a framer. His reputation at Hobby Lobby has made him a conversation piece among art dealers. Fredericksburg is famous for its artsy craftsy type of shops and stores. Also, lots and lots of wineries abound in the area, as well as the Garrison Brothers distillery. There is also the Nimitz museum, rather famous in its own right.

He’ll be going in Monday and Tuesday to see how the job fits. He’ll be knocking down $30 per hour…as I said it’s kind of a trial. It’s a bit of a drive from here, but lots of folks commute.

Hopefully,  that will work out for him…Unfortunately, that will leave the kid without a car, since she destroyed hers..I don’t think husband and wife should work together anyway…it complicates things. I’m not sure when the kid will return to work.

At least there is no problem finding a baby sitter…the wife is in love with that little guy.

More and more I have been dreaming of this

Thursday July 9

Up at 8:30 today, taking meds, then off to the store.

You shoulda seen me smile when I saw that they rearranged the store, the way it was before the dope smoking engineers redesigned it…I be much happier now. It was almost like someone read my poison pen survey after the last visit.

The kid gave me a $10 coupon for infant formula…which was priced at $11.43 per quart… Yes, we are stocking diapers, onsies, and formula for the little one when they bring him over. Dare I say that the kid has failed to plan ahead enough to stock up on said items herself?

Some things don’t change…ever.

Anyway, I was back from the store, unloaded, and put away by noon…I think that’s a record…for me…I did stop at the store of liquor as well.

Overall, a good trip, from my perspective.

My echocardiogram went well, I guess. It took about 30 minutes. I didn’t remember an echo being that intimate, but there it is…removed my shirt, and she shaved a few parts of my chest, and put some kind of lube, and I lay on my side while she probed my chest, dimmed the lights, and I suppose took pictures.

As I was leaving, I mentioned that the doctor had told me I was going to get a monitor stuck on me so she can see what my heart does on a daily basis…for a baseline…they said they would mail it…they didn’t and now she took care of that, and there is a heart monitor on the way.

I love it when stuff goes my way.

I have noticed that my BP has been consistently lower the past couple weeks, since I’ve lost weight. Today, was 106/61…pulse 64. Perhaps there is something to this weight loss and BP…if only, losing weight will get me out of a cardiac ablation…I don’t think so…but will endeavor to persevere..

Tuesday July 7

I don’t know why, but I am exhausted. I have done nothing today, except haul in the trash barrel, and bring the mail and Amazon packages in. Aside from last night’s dishes, and making coffee, nothing.

Tomorrow, I’ll be in the big city at the cardiologist getting an echo. No big deal, but a trip to town without a stop at the grocery store, seems a waste.

I have vowed not to go to the grocery store ever again after noon. Here in Texas, the grocery chain is H.E.B. stores, and they are everywhere. Even in the smaller than normal town, there are two of them. I usually shop the smaller one, as it is (was) less crowded than the larger one.

A couple years ago, they decided to “add an extra aisle” in the produce section. What a  nightmare. They rearranged the entire store to accommodate one lousy extra aisle, so now, two carts passing each other, can easily smash fingers…no joke.

And now, the main aisle between the coolers and the aisle end caps, has been cut in half (actually more than that if you include the space that the extra display takes up) to add more stuff. Now everyone can enjoy the frustration of fighting for front and center to get fresh meat, while some idiot scratches his ass, deciding whether to buy bone in or boneless…not to mention exchanging finger smashing.

After noon, it’s worse than ever because the smaller space means less room for everyone.

I used to enjoy grocery shopping. Not so much any more.

HEB ran most of the smaller grocery stores out of business in the RGV…Around here, Lowe’s Market is still strong in the smaller communities, but they are extremely pricey. At times, their meat sales are very good; I used to get boneless ribeye roasts for $6 a pound, but those days are gone since creepy Joe fucked everyone.

Even the local Lowe’s Market expanded a few years ago, almost doubling their size…they remain pricey, and their produce comes with fruit flies already.

Pricey…a can of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup at Lowe’s Market is $2.39…Food Club brand; .39. …tip o’ the iceberg. a quart of whipping cream…$7.

My BS today is 124…a little up due to the A1 Steak sauce, I’ll bet. I seem to be stuck at 270 pounds…that will change. with the back bedroom now empty (emptier), I can now use my exercise bike some to work on my cardio and perhaps burn off a few extra calories.
