Well, I disappeared the moment I had free time. I told you I'm on here when I'm the busiest, and gone when I have the time.

I've been enjoying my free time, or trying to do so. I've mentioned impending existential crisis multiple times. I've been watching a lot of shows, playing a lot of sims, seeing friends to finally celebrate my bday (cus it was on an exam day), and trying to reach dorm administration. Apparently, once you finish all exams, you are no longer considered a student and they can immediately throw you out. Lovely. It's also lovely that there are hundreds of  notices taped to the dorm building doors about paying the summer fee, but not about this. I've even paid that stupid summer fee, four times the usual amount, and they did not mention that I might get thrown out. They are happy to take money for the months they might not even let me stay there. Anyway, tried reaching administration, no response, so I've asked my professor to fail me temporarily, and grade me in September for my portfolio. She agreed and even said the portfolio was great and that she'd give me recommendations If I went into teaching.

Anyway, I've been catching up on a lot of shows, but I absolutely spedrun the Pop Culture Jeopardy. I don't usually watch Jeopardy as I'm more fond of my local game shows, but this was very fun. I don't even know why I started it. I'm hoping to finish The Apothecary Diaries soon, and get back to Korra and Buffy. I've also been binging a VTMB gameplay.

I'm currently packing for vacation. We are leaving tonight, so I'm definitely late with packing. Not much left to pack, but I'm definitely being a bit too lazy. I'm not sure I'll be writing while there, but I'll try, and I might even post some pics If possible.

See ya

The last week was smoky, though it seems to have cleared for now. At one point, and I can only assume this was from the smoke, I was getting GTA/Toronto radio stations cutting over the local ones.

Had an impressive storm come through over the weekend that knocked out power most everywhere, so I had a building full of angry encabulators yesterday. (I now want to steal that for a future punk band. "Angry Encabulators" has a nice ring to it.)

At some point, I want to get back into the habit of watching things after work. But right now, any time I settle onto the couch or chair, I'm out cold five minutes later. I know it's supposed to be impossible to make up lost sleep but that sign can't stop me if I'm too tired to read it, I guess.

OK FINALLY GETTING STARTED ON THESE MY BAD Y'ALL DHSJKHJDSHJKDS

I'll be combining the first few in one post since those days have already past, but the rest will come on their respective days! Feel free to submit more prompts for the rest to the original post if you'd like! ^ o^)/

Without further ado--

8: Assume you're in an ice cream parlor that has every single flavor known to man, every single topping, and every single way to serve it, and you're holding a coupon for a free dessert. What is your order? - [personal profile] volkameria

This is the toughest question on Earth DAMN HDJKSHJDKSHJKDS

I know for sure I would want a waffle cone b/c GOD I have such a WEAKNESS for waffle cones! Definitely something strawberry with some nice sized strawberry chunks…warm bananas…nutella drizzle…ok I need ice cream now xD

9. What are some of your favourite fannish ships? - [personal profile] adore

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEY I feel like I rarely get a chance to talk about this so THANK YOU for asking!! (Mind you it's not like I can't talk about them more, I'm just a multi-shipping chicken shit who don't wanna be perceived sometimes and don't really know what to say outside of feral screeching xD) ANYWAYS— (under the cut, KINDA LONG)

15: Would you say that you exclusively write the type of thing you'd like to read, or do you sometimes enjoy writing things you'd never choose to read normally? (In this context, "thing" can be actual content, writing style/type of prose, POV, etc. Eg, I love writing poems, but I never seek them out.) - [personal profile] zavodilaterrarium

I almost ALWAYS write the things I wanna read, especially considering I mostly write polycules and OC x Canon! xD The only time I've deviated from that is when the situation calls for it, like with poetry! I rarely if ever got out of my way to make a poem on my own, though now that I'm thinking about it…I could probably start. xD Please Look Forward to It!

19: Do you have any superstitions or rituals that bring you a sense of comfort when carried out, like always splashing in a puddle or doing meditation in the mornings? - [personal profile] volkameria

Knocking on wood when I'm asking for luck/blessings for a situation is my main one (blame my mom for that xD). I also like splashing in puddles every now and then (whenever the weather decides to bless us with some rain for once xD). Now that you mention it I should go back to meditating one of these days...

on a sustained day 5 of climbing out of the decades-worst joint flare i've had, sans surgery/falls. orz

- not 100% there; still can't do long comments, conserving wrists for dayjob>drawing>important projects first, but the typing endurance is coming back, and i'm trying out another painkiller to coast me to normal.
- cause unknown; possibly a mix of work stress, barometric pressure, or a trader joes chocolate crossaint. i am never fucking eating a trader joes chocolate crossaint again lol.
- it's a humbling experience. i really did forget how close to the edge sustained (weeks-long, 3.5 weeks in this case) chronic pain takes you especially when you don't know if it will stop. been there before as a kid, swore i wouldn't be back there again. kept my promise, at least.
- mostly locked in on the zihark doujin outside of work to white knuckle focus on something to keep me from.... y'know, spiraling a little. i'm glad i did, and with that.

anyway. if you were wondering where i went.

The smoke has officially cleared off and it was actually nice yesterday. A friend pinged me about hitting a patio so we did that for a couple of hours. Said patio is attached to a brand new tap room that just opened at the end of my street and all their customers are neighbours who found out about the place by just walking by, so it was full of people with their dogs and babies.

Then I came home and wrote 500 words before going to bed.

Today it's cool enough that I turned off the AC and threw all the windows open. Once I get this posted I plan to spend a couple of hours in the pit.

Have you participated in a game jam before? - [personal profile] arimamary
(still open for questions!)

technically back in school? my game design program had bi-yearly 'game jams' where we'd have a week of no classes but a week to make something according to a theme. one of them as an example was an unconventional controller, where we did a horror game where you'd use shoes to progress a lil baby through a horror hall of creatures

another one was demaking a digital game into a physical one, and we ripped apart mario kart to make into like a pinball sorta game but its a vs 4

otherwise i've not really partaken in game jams more out of anxiety? i guess ... i dunno if that's the right word exactly. it's more like ... 1. i'm terrible at motivating myself on solo projects 2. i worry of being able to commit for a week to a group and changing my schedule up for that, so i've avoided game jams otherwise which does make me a little sad

  • Importing TH Codes to Neocities A cool method to be able to import toyhouse profile codes onto Neocities and what assets/scripts you use for it!! Obviously with the caveat that it should be with codes that the creators allow to be used off-site

YouTube Videos

  • How to create your own ‘physical’ steam games / How to burn your own game CDs The era of CDs returns upon us… especially with Playstation’s announcement, it was funny that this surfaced on my YouTube feed… that’s actually so cool to see someone who also burned the CDs with artwork, and made back matters for the CDs like old CDs. The second video also talks about actually burning the CDs with art and how to make the CD artwork itself ... future goals: a printer that prints on CDs ... but I doubt I'll have any space unless I keep it in the basement.
  • PocketBard on desktop Not something I use since I don't do D&D anymore, but having a cool ambiance/mood music setting app is really cool (plus sound effects like creature growls), and they've stated absolutely no Gen AI was used in it, and that the playlist was hand curated/arranged, which is awesome as hell. I see some people in comments mentioning it's really useful as a focus tool as well or something for background noise (I might try it out just for the ambiance?)
  • AroAce Character Tierlist Fun list of AroAce characters (either one or the other, or both), but also god damn there is a severe lack of it … I know there’s some indie authors who do have ace characters, but not aro as much because 99% of these people write romance and … (vaguely gestures)
  • Dragon March Snake meets Digimon kinda energy, this looks SO cool?? I like the very retro vibe and the gameplay idea ... I gotta remember to wishlist it
  • Hobbies: The Defense Against Brainrot A cool video that touches more upon the neuroscience and importance of having hobbies, I like it because it gives a bit of a framework of ... how to approach choosing a hobby? Some of the suggestions are not really 'I have no money' accessible (ex. travelling), but it's more of a framework ... I realize I pretty much have at least something that covers all 4 quadrants of this

It was my birthday on Saturday! To celebrate, my housemates and I sang karaoke at home. These were the songs I performed!

- As ever, I picked something I wouldn't have to take too seriously as my first song, in this case 'David Duchovny' by Bree Sharp. I had the video playing, naturally, for the whirlwind tour through faces of the nineties. Possibly the most insane moment is Brad Pitt, in character as Tyler Durden, lipsyncing to 'DAVID DUCHOVNY, I KNOW YOU CAN LOVE ME.'

- I introduced 'Water the Roses' by Flavor Foley as 'a gay divorce song', in the knowledge that this would be of interest to my audience. I chose it as my second song because I thought it wouldn't be too tough, but it turned out to be much more challenging than I anticipated; I was trying to sing too high for my range while getting slightly emotional!

- Everyone joined in on 'Sing' by My Chemical Romance, which was fun! Terrible confession: I was in fact hearing the Glee version in my head as I sang.

- By this point I'd warmed up and was feeling ambitious, so I attempted 'Une vie à t'aimer' from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. I only sang up to the 2m20s mark, for multiple reasons: a) the song has long instrumental sections that makes it unsuited to karaoke, b) it's an eleven-minute song, which is far too long for karaoke anyway, and c) nobody needs to suffer through me singing dramatically for eleven minutes in a language I do not speak. I enjoyed belting out my best effort at dramatic French, though!

- 'Burn' from Hamilton was another intimidatingly ambitious pick, but I think it went well! There were a couple of points where I ran out of breath at the end of a line, but that actually worked for the emotion of the song, because it made it sound like I was on the verge of tears. Rei followed this up with 'First Burn', an earlier version of the same song, which was interesting to hear!

- My next pick, 'Vienna' by Billy Joel, was a targeted personal attack on Rei, for a couple of reasons. The obvious surface-level reason was the 'hey, slow down, you'll burn yourself out if you try to do everything' lyrics; Rei, and I say this with the deepest fondness, is a slightly frantic overachiever with a tendency to convince themselves that everything is their job and their responsibility.

The other reason 'Vienna' was a personal attack: it was covered in absolutely nonsense bullshit drama The Politician, which Rei and I watched together years ago. Rei, upon realising where they'd heard this song before, bellowed 'YOU MOTHERFUCKER! YOU DUMB PIECE OF SHIT!' at me so loudly that Tem heard it from the loo and burst out laughing.

- My last 'this is far too ambitious' pick before starting to wind down was 'Through the Fire and Flames' by Dragonforce. Again, I only did the first couple of minutes of this; it's seven minutes long and goes at an exhausting pace! I had fun with it, though.

- At one point Rei was out of the room, meaning I was just performing to Tem and Ginger. I chose 'See You in Hell' from Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, as they both enjoy that game, and I hugely enjoyed their delight when they realised what I was about to sing. Tem joined in on the chorus with enthusiasm.

- 'Future World' by Koethe is a song that's resonated more with me every year since it first came out. I don't want a future world! I don't want to be sold the next big thing! Leave me alone!

- Rei and I dueted on Rei's pick of 'The Ticketman' by Rachel Rose Mitchell, which was great fun! (This is a song that gives Rei feelings about Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls.) (A lot of songs give Rei feelings about Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls.)

- Tem and I sang 'Borrowed Time' from Death Note: The Musical together, because it's just not a household karaoke session without Death Note: The Musical. Poor Misa!

- As it was my birthday, I picked the final song: 'Affirmation' by Savage Garden (heads-up for immediate flashing lights in the video). Everyone joined in and danced along to this one! Rei and I used to sing this song with our mutual friend Yuffie when we were all teenagers, dancing around Yuffie's flat.

My favourite performance of the evening was Rei and Tem's enthusiastic rendition of 'RATATATA' (NB flashing lights) by BABYMETAL (played by Tem) and Electric Callboy (played by Rei). This falls into the karaoke curse where I first hear the song performed at karaoke, then go to listen to the actual song and go 'oh, it's not the same when my friends aren't singing it :('

Rei's performance of 'Shining Collection' from Gravitation was a lot of fun! (No link, alas; it's astonishingly hard to find good-quality versions of the original songs from Gravitation.) I was surprised to find myself singing along with a lot of it, despite the song being in high-speed Japanese; I listened to this song a lot when I was fourteen, and apparently the memory of it has never left me.

Tem's performance of 'Suki, Kirai' by Phantom Siita was also memorable. 'I'm going to base this on their live performance,' Tem warned us, 'so, if you find yourself going "wow, Tem's doing a lot," just know that Phantom Siita do even more than that.' Xe proceeded to perform an initially chirpy-sounding song that degenerated into a sobbing, shrieking breakdown.

After karaoke, I used my birthday privileges to make my housemates watch the BBC's 2005 ShakespeaRe-Told adaptation of Macbeth. It's a modern AU, set in a restaurant, in which a young James McAvoy's Macbeth murders the restaurant's owner in order to get the restaurant. It's not called MacChef, but it should be.

I was obsessed with this stupid thing when I was seventeen. To be honest, my love of Joe Macbeth probably laid the groundwork for my later love of Light Yagami. I really enjoy watching a character absolutely psychologically disintegrating while committing multiple murders.

To my delight, Tem loved MacChef! It's the outcome I was hoping for; Tem and I have a deep and inappropriate shared fondness for fictional murderers.

It is 7:10am. I have not slept and have not bothered climbing into bed yet because my upstairs neighbours are assholes. I have sent them four letters in total trying to establish contact, both me and my dad have knocked on their door when she's actively been in, but she simply will not engage with me... after I first brought it to her attention in May the wall groaning/growling quietened off for a few weeks, but as of mid June it started again and was accompanied by a new vibration noise in one of the rooms that can last 24/7 and is on at night, every night, all night, and I can feel the vibration for it rooms away. Like, literally what I have asked for here is the unspeakable crime of hey, please move this device from being directly on the floor and put it somewhere else. Like on a piece of furniture. Or a mat. If she actually spoke to me, hell, I'd buy her a fucking mat. But she won't!

So, yeah. I basically don't get to sleep until after she leaves for the day, and this woman is a pacer who spends up to two hours walking around in the morning after getting up before going out. Today (yesterday) she slept in, so I didn't get to go to bed until 1:30pm and got about four hours sleep. At this point I'm genuinely... upset by how sick this whole thing is making me. She was gone for a few days after the last time I did groceries and the PEM was so short. I felt like I could do creative things! I opened up my wip! I worked on it for the first time since March! And then she returned and I can feel myself steadily crashing by only getting a handful of hours in a day where I can sleep. I've spent months barely able to do a damn thing other than shower and sleep and eat and the most brain empty tasks I can conjure to fill the hours I have to sit here waiting. It's unfair, I'm miserable, I'm so fucking tired.

Since it seems like she has calmed down after my last letter (she was so petty with noise lmao) but still isn't willing to do anything, the next step is contacting the building owner to go through her landlord. If that goes nowhere, noise nuisance. If that doesn't succeed, I don't know. Guess I'll never get to do anything for myself ever again.

So what have I been doing... stadium and alt levelling. Khlip and Amélie both went to 50 everything, and as of this week I'm working on S'triyx but much more slowly since I went so hard on them and also on Freja. Freja is approaching the end of 90 days of road to 90, and since last time, I have:

done way too much. )

Stadium had the worst patch drop ever at the start of the season. No really, it introduced a build for Reaper where he could just wraith around invulnerable to all damage and do the highest damage in the lobby and have approximately .2 seconds of downtime and if all five of you don't shoot him in the .2 seconds of downtime he would not die. How they approved this I'll never know. They did this with a bunch of other powers on different heroes as well to make some truly awful, insufferable builds, and then, as of last week, announced they wouldn't be adding any new heroes or maps to Stadium and would essentially be abandoning the mode due to low percentage of daily players in it. They announced this in a blog post whilst talking about something else, and frankly, I am sick of the lack of respect that Blizzard (company) has for its playerbase when it comes to communication. They bury game-changing shit in blog posts all the time - they did the same with console aim changes - and you can retrospectively see the signs of them trying and failing to entice new players into Stadium, and all these new key-jangling features are always announced the day before they go live and nobody who plays Stadium wants them at all. They make the grind revoltingly difficult if you didn't do it pre-emptively last summer. This low retention of players is two weeks worth of data, by the way. Which I would argue can't be a sound judgement when it was just after a seasonal event had ended and most of their players would be tired of grinding for rewards (don't get me started on how grindy the anniversary has been) and that they haven't added the entire roster into the mode and now won't, kept adding permenant flight heroes into the mode, and they've been adding new heroes into core every two months so of course people would not be 'playing it'. It's almost like you could ask your players for feedback or suggestions with surveys and such with saving the mode rather than just dropping it entirely! But what do I fucking know!!

As is it's kind of put a dampener on my enjoyment of it. I still like it, obviously, I just feel extremely wary of pouring more time into it if they're going to ruin the balance and perhaps abandon it completely in the coming months. They put so much effort and marketing into this it's just so. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PLAYERS!! PLEASE!! You successfully made me like it! I have played 400 hours of this mode in the last year and gotten 22 competitive weapons with it! I'm on the final push of getting golds for all women, I just got 6k for Sierra/D.Mon when she drops (Pharah is ACAB, she gets nothing, and I refuse to with her current VA. The cat is the spawn of the devil and a cat) and I believe the heroes after that will be a male omnic and perhaps an NB omnic, so I will be done after getting Ashe crimson from drives, so we'll see if I try to wean myself off Stadium or not, or if a few boys call to me...

It is now 8am and the walls are still groaning so I am going to eat tortilla chips with dip. I am shocked my body has let me eat this dip no consequences but I am going to make the most of it.

Mostly on a whim, I attended a meetup group that was "go for a walk then sit down and do art" this morning. It was lovely - a beautiful day, walking beside the ocean, sitting in the shade of a huge tree to paint.

I painted a tree with red leaves and a park bench underneath it that looked out over the water.

I almost forgot. ALMOST! I didn't really do much though. In May my old laptop exploded finally, got a new one later but felt tortured in between. Didn't do anything in June but go to a bunch of doctor appointments (which is an accomplishment, calling people is scary but I did that) and get a year older.

One crazy thing though -- on my birthday I saw a car accident happen in front of me and then narrowly avoided being involved in another one. Once I got home I learned my little sister got in a car accident in which the car she was in flipped and she broke both her shoulders. (She's fine if you ignore that she can barely use her arms right now). Then later on in the day my mom got in a car accident too and totaled her car, so I had to go pick her up. What was up with that?

And I got Linux (Fedora) working on the new laptop shortly after getting it, and I don't regret a thing. I switch back to Windows for certain things, but every time I do I quickly get annoyed and remember why I wanted to change operating systems in the first place.

can someone remind me to write reviews more so i don't have to write 50 in one entry anymore )

Off to Kimbolton Country Fair today (They call it a 'fayre' but I refuse to type any such nonsense with my own keys.)

This is a combination country show and old car show, and there is often a fly-past of Spitfires, (one year there was a Lancaster bomber!) on their way to a proper air-show somewhere else in the country.

But we are going with Coton Morris, and taking Son, Daughter, Son-in-law, and DH's 94 year old mother with us. She is so sprightly that she came down from Liverpool to see us, traveling alone on the train and walking across London from King's Cross to Euston train stations to make the connection into Cambridgeshire.

She doesn't like to be helped or catered to or to have her infirmities thought of at all, but she also does like a nap in the afternoon, and sometimes she looks as though any walking she's doing is very hard work. That generation were all so proud and so intolerant of human frailty, but still, she's doing amazingly. Both of my parents were dead by her age.

The weather forecast had said it would be 19°c today, so when I couldn't find my hat I thought 'oh, I won't need it!' But - spoilers - it was hot and I did need it. I ended up buying myself a white panama hat with a black band to go with Coton's kit, which is white shirt and trousers and a black waistcoat. Musicians can wear whatever they like so long as there are no colours or patterns involved.

Our monochrome is inspired by the Fens in deep winter - white snowy land, white overcast sky, bare black trees. Colour is for places where people don't die of exposure in the winter.

( The Gogs take the opposite approach )

Anyway, it was a very nice time. DH was dancing, I was playing whistle, Son, Daughter and Son-in-law (Sil) were keeping Gran company. She consented to sit in a camping chair with them all disposed on the ground around her like a Faerie Queen with her court.

In the breaks between sets of dancing we had lunch (a very underwhelming cheese toastie for me - the vegetarian options were close to zilch), then went round the stalls.

There was a fly-past by a solitary Hurricane whom everyone waved to as he passed. Then at the end of the last dance we all gathered in the shade of an old oak and ate ice-cream while we watched the classic cars driving by on their way home.

Altogether one of the nicest Kimboltons we've been to for years. We (DH and I) usually go alone, but it is much more pleasant when we have our favourite people in the world there with us.
