While Boulevard sits right on the waterfront, Prospect pushes one block back, closer to the towering Salesforce Park. It’s worth a ride up the gondola to take in the urban oasis. When Prospect opened in 2010, the up-and-coming neighborhood attracted startups, and this was the spot for power lunches and happy hours. These days, as tech workers ebb back into the office on a hybrid basis, it’s more of a dinner destination. Since the beginning, Oakes has partnered with longtime collaborator chef Pam Mazzola and front of house “magician” Kathy King. Chef Jonah Oakden runs the kitchen in rustic style. Plenty of regulars belly up for a cocktail and burger at the bar, but Prospect also takes reservations for large groups who want to party with handmade pastas, heritage pork chops, and devil’s food cake.

Prospect has more of a fun cocktail vibe. It has a vibrant bar where everybody can see everybody. It has the same love of local and fresh ingredients, but just a little bit younger and more casual.

Local Petrale Sole a la Plancha

San Franciscans are raised on petrale, and Oakes champions the local bottom feeder. Seared golden, it’s exceptionally mild and tender, and comes with sides like braised endive and raisin-caper butter.
